The environment for modern high-performance medicine could hardly be better: Located in the middle of one of the most attractive cities in Germany, cooperating with numerous top-class medical and scientific institutions and integrated into the University of Excellence TU Munich (TUM): the University Hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar offers ideal conditions for treating its patients at the highest level.
With around 5,500 employees, the University Hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar is dedicated to patient care, research and teaching. Every year, more than 60 000 patients benefit from inpatient treatment and around 250 000 from outpatient treatment at the highest medical level. More than 40 000 operations per year and around 2 000 births demonstrate the hospital’s high status in the medical care of Munich residents and patients from Germany and around the world.
Founded in 1834 as a district hospital, the Klinikum rechts der Isar today combines tradition and progress as a modern university clinic. With around 30 clinics, 20 interdisciplinary centers and 1 161 beds, the hospital of supramaximal care covers the entire spectrum of modern medicine. In addition, the staff of our numerous scientific institutes research diseases and new therapeutic options.
As a clinic of the Technical University of Munich, one of the most renowned German universities, we want to be measured against the highest standards. Our goal is not only to offer our patients excellent treatment according to the latest medical standards. We also want to make a contribution to ensuring that patients always have better diagnostic and therapeutic options at their disposal. Scientists from all disciplines at the University Hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar are working very successfully on this, in accordance with our motto “Knowledge creates healing”. They start ambitious research projects and achieve remarkable results, as the numerous high-ranking publications, prizes and awards prove.
With their research strength, the University Hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar and the Faculty of Medicine are integral parts of the unique medical location of Munich. One of the keys to its success is the close cooperation between the various scientific institutions. One example is the Comprehensive Cancer Center Munich (CCCM), an association of the Comprehensive Cancer Center of the LMU and the Roman Herzog Cancer Center (RHCCC) of the Klinikum rechts der Isar. In the CCCM, the two Munich university hospitals work together on the research and treatment of cancer. Since 2014, the CCCM has been one of the top 13 oncological centers of German Cancer Aid in Germany. The cooperation has been and continues to be deepened and expanded by numerous projects, whether through joint offers for patients, through cooperation in the development of innovative technical solutions or through joint research projects, among others in the German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research (DKTK).
